Xbox App Not Working: How to Fix It
If the Xbox app won’t open or keeps crashing
A handful of standard Windows/mobile fixes solve most Xbox app problems, roughly in order of how likely they are to help:
On Windows
- Repair or reset the app. Settings → Apps → Apps & features, search for “Xbox,” open it, and try Repair first. If that doesn’t help, use Reset (this clears the app’s local data, so you may need to sign in again).
- Reset the Microsoft Store cache. Since the Xbox app depends on it, a corrupted Store cache can take Xbox down with it. Open the Run dialog (Win+R), type
wsreset.exe, and press Enter. It runs with no visible window — give it a minute, then restart your PC. - Install pending Windows updates. Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
- Check the Xbox-related services are running. Open the Run dialog, type
services.msc, and make sure “Xbox Accessory Management Service,” “Xbox Live Game Save,” and “Xbox Live Networking Service” are all set to Running.
On Android or iOS
Close the app fully, restart your phone, then clear the app’s cache from your device’s app settings (Android: Settings → Apps → Xbox → Storage → Clear Cache). If it’s still crashing, uninstall and reinstall the app from the Play Store or App Store.
Still not working?
At that point it’s worth checking Xbox Support directly — they’ll have current status info if it’s a wider outage rather than a local issue.
